LEESBURG – When Leesburg first year head coach Mark Oates wants to use one of his players as an
example when it comes down to hard work on the practice and playing field, he mentions Deion
Mensah’s name often. Mensah’s work ethic earned him a spot on the 2017 Daily Commercial All-Area
Team Honorable Mention this post season. The sophomore, OLB/CB/RB, 5-9, 154, recorded 81
tackles, 27 solo tackles, caused 3 fumbles and had 1 fumble recovery for the Jackets this past season.

In addition, he was named Defensive Player of the Game against Lake Minneola by the Leesburg
coaching staff when he recorded a season high 16 total tackles, 5 solo, 11 assists, 1 TFL. Oates
knows that Mensah will be a vital of the program’s success in the future. He spoke highly of Mensah
during a press conference after the selections were announced.

“Deion Mensah is one of the hardest working players on the team and his best is ahead of him,”
Oates said.
