An assortment of injuries greeted Head Coach Whitey Smith and his staff on the practice field at
Leesburg High Monday as the Jackets licked their wounds after a stirring 13 to 7 upset win over a tough
Seminole eleven last week. Among the walking wounded were Bill Butler with an infected eye; J. J.
Kimmons with a bruised and cut brow that required medical attention; John Watkins, still nursing a pair
of bruised arms; Stan Himelsbaugh with a sore shoulder, and Mike Nappi with a knee condition.
Yesterday halfback John Mason, the offensive star last week, complained of a back condition. Most of
the boys expected, however, to be ready to  go come Friday and Homecoming against Pasco High of
Dade City. One exception will be end Bobby Franklin, an appendicitis victim, who will be lost to the
squad for the remainder of the year.

The assorted bruises and bumps were sufficient enough to call off contact work Monday as the squad
dressed out and went through wind sprints and timing drills. There was contact work yesterday,
however, and there is more on tap for today. Yesterday they divided their time between offense and
defense while more time is scheduled to be spent on individual assignments today. There is not
expected to be any contact work tomorrow as the squad will be depleted by the loss of the jayvees who
will be traveling to Ocala where they will close out their six-game schedule.

Mason and Tony Cinicola came through real well for the Jackets in their win last week with Cinicola
leading the offensive charges that shook halfback Mason loose. This was the first crack at offense for
Mason who managed to lead the Jackets to their upset victory and he may be hard to move out of a
starting assignment now that he has had a taste of it.
