Jackets May Have Aerial Circus Going Friday

Injured Are Returning To Bolster 11

Head Coach Whitey Smith and backfield Coach Buddy Lowe cranked up their ancient right arms on the
practice field at Leesburg High yesterday afternoon as the locals get ready for the aerial circus sure to
be presented at Memorial Field Friday night when Quarterback Chuck Hawthorne and the rest of the
Red Devils come riding into town for Homecoming. It was a wrap up to a full afternoon of work with
John O'Steen, Virgil Farling, Jim Wesley, and later Bobby Nappi making up the defensive backfield.
They got a real good workout, too, as the coaching staff converted Stan Himelsbaugh, Russell
Casson, Bob Busby, Bob Blair and others into pass receivers. The results were not pleasing and you
can bet that this phase of the game will come in for some more attention as the week wears on.

In addition to the return of their popular Capt. Stan Himelsbaugh the spirits on the practice field were
picked up even more this week when Junior Guard Bob Fairbanks shed his cast. An appointment with
doctor today will decide his future. John O'Steen was another returnee to Jacket practice sessions.
Defensive back Steve Vibber who suffered only a bad shoulder bruise against Apopka should be
alright come game Friday night. This announcement brought a welcome sigh of relief as it was thought
at first that he had suffered a collar bone separation at the least Steve Barley was released by the
doctor last Wednesday for the some unknown reason was absent from practice yesterday. A count of
heads showed more live bodies out for practice at Leesburg this week than there has been since the
season opener against DeLand. It's like the start of a new season and well it might be as the locals
head into the last half of their schedule.

The rain Monday moved the squad indoors for a skull session and review of movies. Tuesday they
held a controlled fundamental scrimmage with more heavy work on tap for today. Yesterday they put in
one of their hardest work days in weeks as they tried to come up with a formula to contain the Lakeview
pass receivers, stop their running game and keep pressure on the passer all in one night and all in
one ball game.

Thursday they'll taper off. There'll be dummy drills for the backs to improve their timing along with pass
patterns of their own to perfect and the usual attention paid to their kicking game.
