Jackets Looking Great In Spring Grid Drills

Spirits were high on the practice field at Leesburg High last week at the Jackets held their first live
scrimmage of the spring. There was some crisp tackling and sharp blocking in evidence in spite of the
hot humid climate. The weather has been just about perfect for spring practice.

While it has been hot the lack of rain has been a blessing in disguise with full one and a half hour
sessions each afternoon for the past two weeks.

There have been an assortment of minor injuries but serious injuries have been kept to a minimum.
Ricky Brillhart suffered a broken collar bone which will keep him out of action at least for the remainder
of the spring.

Up front the offensive line is starting to take shape and should be real sharp by the time of the varsity
senior game Friday May 26. The defense has been looking real good when you consider that less time
has been spent on this pahse of the game than anything else. Linebackers John O'Steen and Steve
Etheredge have shown steady improvement and have been spearheading the gang tackling the
Jackets have been doing.

This week the JayVees win wrap up their spring sessions with a ball game Friday night. They will be
playing four ten minutes quarters. This week, also the seniors will start working out as they get ready
for the senior varsity clash Friday the 26th. The seniors will be going through dummy drills and
formations in an effort to improve their timing and ball handling for the game. It is not expected that they
will be doing any hitting yet.
