LEESBURG - The Minutemen of Cocoa Beach with Quarterback Tom Yeakleg pitching strikes blasted
Leesburg 34 to 19 at Memorial Field here Friday night. It marked the first meeting between the two
schools. Next week the locals close out their 1967 season taking on another nonconference foe
Daytona Seabreeze.

The Jackets jumped out to a quick 13 to 0 first quarter lead before the visitors could even get on the
score board but after that it was all
Cocoa Beach as they picked up a TD in the first quarter, went ahead
with three in the second quarter and put icing on the cake with another touchdown in the final period
while holding Leesburg to a single score in the third period after their two quick opening touchdowns.

FULLBACK BILLY BAGGETT ran the first TD in for the visitors with a one yard plunge but Junior
Quarterback Yeakleg figured in the rest of the scoring as he fired TD passes of forty and thirty two yards
to
Split End Bob Foster, a thirty four yard aerial to Slotback Mark Nickols and a twenty nine yarder to
Slotback Ed Pilcher.

The Leesburg scoring was by
Tailback John O'Steen on a one yard blast and Slotback Henry Daniels
on a five yard run, along with Fullback Mark Lampp on a two yard plunge.

A short Cocoa Beach punt of twelve yards got the Jackets in good field position early in the ball game
and they capitalized on it by moving in for the score.
Quarterback Archie Lowry with a key block from
O'Steen rambled thirty four yards to the visitors eighteen before he was hauled down. A big penalty got
them a first down at the nine and it took four cracks at the line before O'Steen picked up the TD with a
one yard blast. A pass for the point was incomplete. Their drive had started from their own forty eight.

THE KICKOFF BY
DAVID McComb carried all the way to the Minutemen one yard line and put them
deep in the hole. They fumbled at the six and Tackle Wade Welch came up with the ball. Daniels picked
up their second score for the night with a five yard run and Lowry found O'Steen in the end zone for the
point. It was Leesburg 13 Cocoa Beach 0 at this early stage of the ball game.
