Orange Belt Conference foes Leesburg and DeLand found themselves in a 6-6 tie as the final whistle
sounded at DeLand Memorial Stadium Friday night.

It was the season's opener for each squad and was characterized by strong defensive play. Neither
team could muster up a scoring punch in the opening half that saw a total of only 8 first downs.

Leesburg's quarterback Archie Lowery received the opening kickoff on the Jacket 20 yard line and
returned it ten yards to the thirty.

After three running plays failed to make the necessary yardage for a first down, Lowery went into punt
formation for the Jackets. Lowery's punt was taken on the on the Bulldog 41 by DeLand halfback Gus
Bell, who was downed immediately.

DeLand's initial offensive thrust netted them a pair of first downs and carried them to the Jacket
twenty-five before a Bulldog fumble was pounced upon by a host of Jackets.
