They say that to be a good lineman in football you've got to be dumb. But apparently someone forgot to
tell Greg Johnson that.

Johnson used his head and brought victory for Leesburg High's Yellow Jackets at homecoming at
Memorial Field Friday night. It was, in Coach Wilbur Lofton's words, the "finest effort I've ever had of any
bunch of boys."

EUSTIS was the victim, 8-6, but Johnson was the star. It was he who, with just 43 seconds left in the
game, dropped Eustis quarterback Stuart Cottrell for safety after it had appeared the two clubs would
have to settle for a 6-6 tie.

"Number 62 (Don Ball) had been blocking me high and inside all night," a jubilant Johnson said right
after the great play. "It had been effective, too. But, since he had played me that way all night; I thought if I
faked him inside and went outside I could get through. And it worked."

Work it did, Johnson busted through the line like a hog after an ear of corn, chasing Cottrell, who was
attempting to pass, out of the pocket. As Cottrell retreated into the end zone, Johnson swarmed him
under for the safety and the margin of victory.
