St. Cloud Favored Over Baffling Leesburg Friday
November 13, 1986|By Frank Carroll of the Sentinel Staff
Orlando Sentinel
Updated: Thursday, April 16, 2015, 11:06 a.m.

2  of

Defensively, The Jackets' all-senior alignment has been giving up more yards and points than
expected -- an average of 236.3 per game. Broken down, Leesburg is yielding 145.1 yards rushing and
81.9 passing. Opponents are scoring 14.5 ppg.

''It's true that Leesburg has been sporadic . . . hasn't gotten eye- opening games from its quarterback or
running backs, but it has the personnel capable of moving the football,'' Smith said. ''Leesburg can be
extremely aggressive and is very physical.''

St. Cloud quarterback Brian Hendren, nursing a case of mononucleosis, didn't play in the Bulldogs'
28-9 loss last year and is looking forward to making up for that absence.

''If we beat Leesburg, then Osceola, we'll be the unofficial Orange Belt Conference champions, finish
as district runner-up, and be in line for a bowl invitation,'' Smith said. ''That's what our kids are shooting
for.''

From the prediction corner, the Osceola Seer, 11-4 last week, has 100 touchdowns and 37 fumbles
(73 percent) for the season.

This week:

ST. CLOUD (4-4, 2-2) at LEESBURG (3-5, 1-3): The Bulldogs are starting to find their stride. . . . St.
Cloud by 10.

OSCEOLA (2-6, 0-2) at AUBURNDALE (7-1, 2-0): Did everyone see the Miracle on 34th Street? It's
going to take something more than special effects to upend the Bloodhounds. . . . Auburndale by 20.
