LEESBURG — Stealing a page from Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Sam Wyche's playbook, Leesburg
High School wore orange pants at home for the first time and squib-kicked, but all the Yellow Jackets
really needed was tailback Oran Singleton and defense.

Singleton, a 5-foot-6, 150-pound senior, rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns, and the Yellow
Jackets' defense limited Ocala Vanguard (2-3) to only 10 yards of offense in a 48-14 homecoming
victory Friday night before 3,500 fans at Memorial Field/Hubert O. Dabney Stadium.

Vanguard's touchdowns came on a 32-yard fumble recovery by Brian Lavan and a 92-yard kickoff return
by Johnnie Presley.

Other than that, Leesburg (4-1) did just about anything it wanted against the Knights. The Yellow
Jackets totaled 411 yards, 381 on the ground.

''They pretty much whipped us any which way you put it,'' Vanguard coach Phillip Yancey said. ''Their
defense just wore us out. We ended up running from the I-Formation, which we only use in practice to
work on defense against opposing teams.''

Although Vanguard took a 7-0 lead with 9:46 remaining in the first quarter when lineman J.R.
Swinderman stripped the ball from Singleton and Lavan returned it for a touchdown, Vanguard's
offense didn't touch the ball again until just 2:25 left in the first quarter and the score 7-7.

''I thought defensively we played a very good football game,'' Leesburg coach Ed Hoffman said.

Singleton scored on a 1-yard run with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter, and Brian Rausch's squib kick
was fumbled by Swinderman and recovered by Leesburg's D.J. Keith at Vanguard's 42. Leesburg didn't
score.

Singleton also scored on runs of 12 and 3 yards. Quarterback Steve Gooden scored on a 29-yard
option play, reserve tailback Herbert Ellis scored on a 17-yard run and reserve quarterback Julliard
Roberts on a 7-yard run.
