Singleton Runs Leesburg Past Wildwood, 42-0

Senior Rushes For 214 Yards, Hits 2,000 Mark For Season

WILDWOOD — It took him more than three quarters to get going, but Leesburg's Oran Singleton
rushed for 214 yards to break the 2,000-yard mark this season, sealing a 42-0 blowout of Wildwood
before about 3,000 fans Friday night at Wildcat Field.

Singleton, a senior who entered the game needing 183 yards to become the Yellow Jackets' first back
to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, reached the milestone with a 72-yard touchdown run midway
through the fourth quarter. It was his second touchdown of the game and closed his sixth 200-yard-
plus game this season. He carried 26 times.

Class AAAA Leesburg (9-1) initially had to rely on running backs Herbert Ellis, Nick Williams and D.J.
Keith to set things up while Wildwood's defense bottled Singleton up. That trio chipped in 81 yards and
three touchdowns.

''The offensive line really gave it to me,'' said Singleton, who has 4,760 career yards. ''I just ran the ball
and tried my best. They (Wildwood) came in playing tough, and it was like they were all going to Oran.''

The effort was a bit unsettling to Leesburg coach Ed Hoffman, who expected more emotion,
considering the regional playoffs begin next week.

''I think our kids are going to have to put their minds more toward next week,'' Hoffman said. ''Luckily,
Ellis and others came and did the job.''
