Belleview Rains Points On Leesburg's Parade
Lake sports - Prep Roundup

LEESBURG — The sloshy football field at Memorial Field/Hubert O. Dabney Stadium
was perfect for Belleview's power offense, and the Rattlers used it Friday night to grind
out a 32-3 Class 5A, District 7 victory over Leesburg.

It was a night filled with turnovers and frustration for Leesburg (0-4, 0-2) and the crowd
of about 500 fans.

The Yellow Jackets had a minus-13 yards rushing and just 3 yards passing. They lost 4-
of-7 fumbles and also had two passes intercepted. They ran only three offensive plays
in the third quarter. Leesburg also had just three first downs, two of which came on
Belleview penalties.

Despite the offensive problems, Leesburg coach Bud O'Hara walked off the field feeling
his players gave an excellent accounting.

''They (the Rattlers) have a great football team,'' O'Hara said. ''This weather didn't affect
them. They were just going to line it up and smash it at us anyway. We have a long way
to go.

''But, I honestly feel like our kids played as hard as they could. I am pleased with the
effort.''

Leesburg's defense, until finally wearing out late in the game, played well. The Yellow
Jackets gave up a lot of yards, but continually made big plays to stop Rattlers drives.

Belleview (3-1, 1-0) also had its share of turnovers - five, including four fumbles.

Lamar Rembert, rushed for 131 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns for Belleview.
Fullback Calvin Cook, who didn't get a carry until the second half, finished with 70 yards
and a 36-yard touchdown run.

Belleview took a 13-3 lead at the end of the half and all the points for both teams came
off of turnovers as the half was played in a steady, to heavy, rain.

The Rattlers fumbled four times and lost all four in the half. Leesburg fumbled three
times, but lost only one. However, the Yellow Jackets had two passes intercepted in the
half.

Leesburg took a 3-0 lead at the 7:24 mark of the first quarter when Clark Saylor kicked
a 30-yard field goal. Those points came after Belleview quarterback Willie Barr fumbled
a snap on his own 27 and Seth Mulford recovered.

Belleview, though, took the lead with 5:52 left in the second period after Belleview's
Anthony Quintana recovered a Leesburg fumble and returned it 35 yards to the
Leesburg 26. On the next play, Rembert, who had 78 yards rushing in the half, broke
loose around left end for a 26-yard touchdown.
