Leesburg Ends Slump By Defeating Belleview
Game Day

LEESBURG -- Leesburg's football team finally got over the hump against a district rival
from Marion County with a 17-7 win over Belleview on Friday night in a District 4
matchup.

After one-touchdown losses to Marion County's Forest and Vanguard earlier this
season, the Yellow Jackets' defense made sure there wouldn't be a third.

Leesburg's defense held the Rattlers to just 71 yards of total offense and no points on
its way to snapping a five-game losing streak against Belleview (4-4, 2-2).

"I didn't know if our kids could hold out long enough, but they did," said Leesburg coach
Bud O'Hare. "We had seven kids going both ways tonight and four starters out with
injuries. I'm just so proud of the way they fought tonight."

His team allowed just four first downs on the night.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the district, which
keeps them in the hunt for a state playoff berth.

Leesburg trailed Belleview 7-3 at the half, despite holding a 149-to-36 yardage
advantage.

The difference over the first two quarters was a fumble recovery in the end zone by
Rattlers' linebacker Patrick Carty with just 5:45 left in the first half.

Leesburg took the lead for good with 5:01 left in the third quarter when Corrie Kelly
scored on a fourth and goal from the 4-yard line.

Tony Fields added a 7-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter to give Leesburg
some breathing room.

"Leesburg did a great job of stopping us, and they had a great game plan on defense,"
said Belleview coach Eddie Anderson.
