LEESBURG -- An already young Leesburg team that got younger this week with the call-up of three
freshman running backs used sophomore quarterback Brett Pitchford to engineer a drive late in the
first half and lead the Yellow Jackets to a 14-6 victory over Mount Dora.

Another sophomore also played a big hand in the victory. Defensive back Tyler Hill intercepted a pass
from Colin Cosden in the closing seconds to end a desperate attempt to tie the game.

All three freshmen backs, halfbacks Mike Jenkins and Tory Harrison and fullback Mike Lewis, saw
extensive playing time. Lewis carried the ball 14 times for 37 yards.

"Everything is a struggle for us," said Leesburg coach Charles Nassar, who won for the first time in his
head coaching career. "But we are so young, that is what is going to happen."

Leesburg (1-1) appeared to put the game away in the fourth quarter when the Yellow Jackets scored
after Mount Dora (0-2) failed to pick up a first down on a fourth-down pass from its own 19.

The Yellow Jackets scored on a 2-yard carry by Howard Russell with 48.5 seconds left to secure the
victory.

But Cosden hit a couple of big pass plays, one for 15 yards to Maurice White and one for 40 yards to
Welton Nance, before Hill's interception ended the drive at Leesburg's 20 with 11.5 seconds remaining.

A Leesburg offense that lost four fumbles leading to touchdowns in its season-opener last week did a
much better job of hanging onto the ball.

"I think in the first half, for all but one series, we contained their offense," said Mount Dora assistant
coach Rick Hulett, filling in while coach Craig Cosden is out with an injury.
