Mount Dora Triumphs

Defense Is The Key As The Hurricanes, Playing Their 1st Game, Defeat
Leesburg.

LEESBURG -- On a night when Leesburg quarterback Tyler Hill rushed for 162 yards, he needed at
least 163.

On a night that belonged to the offenses, Mount Dora's defense was asked to make two big stops in
the final two minutes and did, as the Hurricanes defeated Leesburg 30-23 Friday night at H.O. Dabney
Stadium.

It was the second tough loss for Leesburg in as many weeks. The team dropped a 35-34 overtime
decision to Eustis in last week's season opener.

Mount Dora scored twice on long runs in the fourth quarter, one a 53-yard carry by Rashad Cummings
with 10:34 left in the game, and the second on a 62-yard carry by John Steadman with 5:36 left to play.

Cummings finished with 107 yards and a touchdown and Steadman finished with 100 yards and two
touchdowns.

But it was the Mount Dora defense that proved to be the difference in the game.

Trailing 30-23 with 2:08 left in the game, Leesburg was facing a fourth-and-3 from the Mount Dora 19.
Leesburg fullback Shon Gunn took a handoff from Hill but was stood up just inches short of a first
down.

Leesburg got one more chance when Mount Dora quarterback Colin Cosden, fighting for extra yards,
had the ball stripped from his grasp and Leesburg's James Jones recovered at the Mount Dora 26.
