Most high school football coaches will tell you the scores of spring games don't matter.

South Lake and St. Cloud took it to the extreme when the two teams played last Friday night. They didn't
even bother to keep score.

"I don't know what the official score was, but they scored a few more points than we did. But just a few
more,'' South Lake Coach Charles Weems. "We did some good things on offense, some bad things
on defense. It was a good opportunity to see where we were at."

They kept score in a spring game played Tuesday night at Wildwood. Mount Dora defeated the
Wildcats 42-22.

Tonight, all the other high school football teams in Lake and Sumter counties will take part in their
spring games. For Leesburg and Umatilla, the scores will not matter much, but the atmosphere will
give the game a feel of importance.

The two Lake schools will join Lake Highland Prep for a jamboree arranged by the Highlanders'
booster club at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Umatilla will play Lake Highland Prep for a half
beginning at 6 p.m. Umatilla then will play a half against Leesburg at 7. Leesburg and Lake Highland
will play another half at 8.

One change has been made to tonight's schedule.

The Eustis-Crystal River spring game, originally scheduled at Eustis' Panthers Den, has been moved
to Crystal River because of the remodeling and construction under way at Eustis. Game time will be at
6.

In other games scheduled for tonight, East Ridge will be at University at 7; Tavares is at South Sumter
at 7 and Villages Charter is at Ocala St. John Lutheran at 7:30 p.m.

"Lake Highland was very gracious to go ahead and pull that off,'' Leesburg Coach Charles Nassar said
about playing in the Florida Citrus Bowl. "Their [the Highlanders'] field is under construction. Umatilla is
under construction, and ours has graduation on it [Friday night].
