Leesburg Yellow Jackets vs. Dunnellon Tigers, High School Football Game

Tigers keep on running

DUNNELLON — With a District 3A-6 championship wrapped up, and a bye week in its immediate
future, the Dunnellon High School football team could have easily been caught in a senior night trap on
Friday night.

Instead, Bubba Black ran for 50 of his 240 yards and the first of three rushing touchdowns on the first
play from scrimmage, and Dunnellon never trailed en route to a 34-21 victory over Leesburg at Tiger
Stadium.

Black had 95 yards and two touchdowns on his first two touches, and the Tigers (9-1, 7-0) got a 23-yard
touchdown pass from Cody Underwood to Terrence Brooks to take an overwhelming 20-0 lead before
the Yellow Jackets (4-6, 2-5) chipped away to respectability throughout the balance of the evening.

“This was more difficult than people can every understand,” said Dunnellon coach Frank Beasley,
whose team won its seventh straight game. “You motivate kids the whole year to win. ‘You gotta win,
you gotta win, you gotta win.’ Then, finally, you win the (district), and you’ve got the whole thing wrapped
up, and now you have to face a team like Leesburg that’s got three or four (speedsters), and they’re
physical as all get-out.

“But we did well. It was tough getting our kids together and staying focused, so it was a good win. We
had some mistakes, but we’ll get back to working on some fundamentals during our open week, next
week.”

Black ran over Leesburg defensive lineman Andre Waters and raced 50 yards on the game’s first play,
then, after a Stephano Squartino fumble recovery, went another 45 yards for a TD. The outing pushes
Black to 1,944 rushing yards and 24 TDs for the season.
