Hawkeyes Pick Up Commitment From Florida Wide Receiver

Wide receiver Adrian Falconer visited Iowa City this weekend and decided to give Iowa a shot.

There are a couple of interesting factors with Falconer’s recruitment: A few years ago much was made
of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz publicly acknowledging that Iowa wouldn’t post an assistant coach in
Florida and nor would it actively recruit the area. Iowa did, however, keep offering Florida preps and now
stands to have its first Florida commitment since QB Jake Rudock and DE Daumantas Venckus-
Cuccichara in 2013.

Chris Hays, a reporter for the Orlando Sentinel’s “Florida Recruiting” web site, offers a terrific
breakdown of Falconer’s skills here. He writes, “Falconer is gifted in traffic and has great ball skills with
the ability to adjust in the air. He has also shown a knack for keeping his route alive when the
quarterback gets in trouble.”

Last season for Leesburg (Fla.) High School, Falconer caught 55 passes last season for 714 yards
and five touchdowns. Some of Falconer’s other offers included Indiana, Cincinnati, Marshall, Memphis
and Southern Miss. Falconer is ranked No. 32 in the Sentinel’s 2015 Super 60. Falconer, who also
played linebacker for Leesburg, was recruited to Iowa by running backs and special teams coach Chris
White.

Another interesting element of Falconer’s recruitment is that Iowa is being more conservative in the
number of receivers it will take in this class. Falconer told HawkeyeReport.com that Iowa will take just
two receivers in the 2015 class.

“Out of all the schools recruiting me, Iowa was the one coming at me the hardest, so I felt like they really
wanted me here,” Falconer told HawkeyeReport.com. “The wide receivers coach, Coach [Bobby]
Kennedy, wanted me bad. He told me this morning he’s bringing in two receivers this year and definitely
wants me to be one of them.”
