At Lake Minneola, Walter Banks is getting another shot at head coach. The former South Lake coach
replaced Corey Brinson, who stepped down after last season.

Banks said he is hoping to improve his team’s mental toughness over the course of the spring. He
also wants the Hawks to become more proficient at the fundamentals of the game.

“I expect us to be better at blocking and tackling by the time we host (Orlando) Jones on May 21 in our
spring game,” Banks said. “My goal is to get better at everything we do each day we practice. I’ve been
excited about our first day of spring practice since I got the job. I want our kids to be just as excited.”

Banks said Lake Minneola will take the field today wearing shorts and helmets and will don shoulder
pads on Thursday. Even though he could conduct a practice in full pads on Saturday, Banks said he will
give his players the weekend to recharge their batteries before their first full-pad practice on May 4.

“We don’t want to beat ’em up,” Banks said. “Our kids are going to be doing a lot, and they need time to
digest everything they learn. The weekend is a good time for that. When we get on the field in full pads
the second week, they’ll be ready.”

With the exception of Montverde Academy, which dropped its football program, eight coaches will be
back with their teams from a year ago.

South Sumter’s Inman Sherman will be entering his 32nd season as head coach of the Raiders. He’ll
take a 253-106 win-loss record into the 2015 season, and the Raiders will carry a 33-game regular-
season winning streak into the season.

The last time the Raiders lost a regular-season game was in 2011, when Leesburg beat them 13-6 at
Raider Field.
