This game had everything a football fan could ask for.

Lake Weir and Leesburg combined for 1,079 yards and 96 points on Friday night as the Hurricanes
emerged victorious in a shootout, defeating the Yellow Jackets by a score of 54-42.

For Lake Weir, one man stood above the rest on the night though, and that man is running back Kimo
Clarke.

Clarke rushed for six touchdowns and 339 yards against Leesburg, which according to Star-Banner
writer Richard Burton, is a Lake Weir school record.

Overall, the Hurricanes dominated up front, totaling 469 yards on the ground among a trio of Clarke,
quarterback Tayari Green and running back Gene Reid.

“Our offensive line created some big holes tonight, and our skill players just made it happen,” Lake
Weir coach Will Dettor said. “Our guys ran hard tonight. All three of those guys (Clarke, Green, Reid)
ran it well when we needed them to.”

Although it was a shootout, Lake Weir remained in control for much of the game.

With leads of 21-7 in the second quarter and 42-21 in the third, the Hurricanes came away with points
on offense when needed, and big stops on defense when called on as well.

Lake Weir forced two interceptions on Leesburg’s first two drives in the second half, with one being a
pick-six, to all but seal a victory.

Facing one of the top quarterbacks in the area in Wyatt Rector, the Hurricanes defense played plenty of
bend but don’t break defense.

Rector finished 23-of-52 for 415 yards, three interceptions and six total touchdowns.

“I was really proud of our defense tonight,” Dettor said. “With that type of quarterback and that type of
offense, you don’t try to stop it, you just have to try and slow it down.”

Looking forward, Lake Weir will play its second of three games in a seven-day stretch on Monday in
Gainesville.

The Hurricanes (4-4) play Gainesville at Citizen’s Field at 7 p.m.

“We just want to keep this momentum,” Dettor said. “Our goal coming into this stretch was to go 3-0,
and we’ve got one down. Two to go.”
