2018 Leesburg (Fla.) quarterback Wyatt Rector returned to Charlottesville Sunday and committed to the
Wahoos.

“It was awesome,” said Rector of the moment when he committed to head coach Bronco Mendenhall
and the Virginia staff. “There was so much excitement and there was emotion. It was a great moment.

“The message was simple, ‘welcome to the family, we can’t wait to coach you, and it’s time to change
the culture at Virginia.”

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder chose UVa over offers from Eastern Kentucky, Southern Miss, and USF, as
well as interest from the Tar Heels, Florida State and Virginia Tech.

“UVa was the pick because it felt like home. It felt welcoming. I loved the campus and my family loved it
and it was clear that I was their main target.

“All of the people there were so friendly and welcoming. It is the perfect fit.”

Virginia told Rector at the time of his offer that he reminded the staff of former BYU quarterback Taysom
Hill.

He had the chance, once again, to spend time with quarterbacks coach Jason Beck, who coached Hill
in Provo.

“They said there would be multiple options for me to run and throw the ball, so I can attack defenses
with my legs and arm.

“It’s really a perfect offense for me.”

Rector tore his ACL just five quarters into his junior season. In those five quarters, he passed for 375
yards and rushed for 179 yards on 28 carries.

“I get cleared next month, on April 5th. I'm coming along well and my knee is coming back stronger than
before the injury.”

As a sophomore, the Sunshine State signal caller passed for 1,132 yards and 11 touchdowns and
rushed for 1,011 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Rector is the second player in the 2018 class to give his verbal pledge to Virginia, joining Bethesda
(Md.) The Avalon School outside linebacker Noah Taylor.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Rector is rated three-stars.
