RECORD OF LEESBURG JACKETS SET UP
AS CHALLENGE TOWARD ALL HIGH
SCHOOLS OF FLORIDA
December 22, 1933
LEESBURG - In the Tampa Tribune of Sunday was a challenge from Leesburg high school Yellow
Jackets to all of Florida to show such a record for the past seven years. Like the Commercial;s
challenge of more good road loops around Leesburg than anywhere else in Florida, this challenge
probably will never be answered but it establishes an unchallenged record. The Tribune special said:
Football fans of this city (Leesburg) are claiming for the local high school the best seven year gridiron
record ever compiled by a Florida prep eleven.
The locals have won 55 lost four and tied four during the last seven years, a remarkable record for
anybody's football team. They finished undefeated four years and their record of eight wins, two defeats
and one tied this season is their worse since 1926.
During the last seven years, Leesburg teams have amassed a total of 1684 points against their
opponents 194, which is another record for some team to fire at. The locals piled up their most
impressive totals in 1928, scoring 352 points against 12 for their opponents. During the following
season, they counted 254 points against six for opposing teams.
