Yellow Jackets Take 13-0 Win Over Eustis For First Victory Of Season

By Sports Staff
The Leesburg Commercial-Ledger
Thursday, November 1, 1951

LEESBURG - About 2500 fans were on hand to see the Leesburg Yellow Jackets win their first victory
here last Friday night as they defeated the Eustis Panthers 13-0 in an Orange Belt Conference game
on
the Leesburg Memorial Field.

The Jackets were lucky in the first quarter when the Panthers kicked on a fourth down after gaining
nothing on the ground in three plays after the kick-off. Judson Cauthen, Jacket tackle, came crushing
through the Panther line and block their boot. Also coming in with Cauthen on the play was right end
Carl
Huff, who picked up the ball on the 8 yard line and scooted across for the touchdown. Jack Peachy
halfback, made the extra point for the Jackets by running around end. This score brought the Leesburg
team out in front for the first time this season.

Both teams played on even terms in the second and third quarters. Late in the fourth quarter the Eustis
team was in Leesburg territory when they lost the ball on a fumble that was recovered by Cauthen and
Petttit. The Jackets began a 35 yard drive sparked by Jimmy (Cotton) Marshall, Jack Peachy, and
Gershon Bosanquet.

Marshall took a handoff from the quarterback and scored the final touchdown of the evening. The extra
point try was no good.

Outstanding defensive play by Tommy Clark, Jack Felty, Jr, Vin Fechtel, Dickie Pettit, Runt Pelt, Judson
Cauthen, Howard Rempe, and Carl Huff was a big factor in stopping the fighting Panthers.

The Leesburg victory was the first gridiron glory enjoyed here since 1948 when the Jackets won over
Sebring. They have played two tie games since that time, with a loss record of 23 games.

This Friday night the Yellow Jackets will move into Webb Stadium for a hot non-conference tilt with the
Ocala Wildcats. Starting line-up for the Jackets will probably be Tommy Clark, and Carl Huff, at ends,
with
Vin Fechtel, and Judson Cauthen at the tackle posts. Jack Felty and Howard Rempe are expected to
start
as guards while Dickie Pettit will hold down the center spot. In the backfield will be Jimmy Marshall,
Gershon Bosanquet, Jack Peachy, and Clyde Williams.
