Leesburg vs Apopka, High School Football Game

Yellow Jackets To Meet Apopka Sept. 28

By Sports Staff
The Leesburg Commercial Ledger
Thursday, September 30, 1951

The Leesburg High School Yellow Jackets began scrimmaging under the new lights at the nearly
completed stadium this week in preparation for their Sept. 28 game with Apopka in the neighboring
town.

Coach Ed Stack reports that the gridders are beginning to point up and increasing emphasize is being
placed on the air, with some excellent passes completed during practice.

Looking good in scrimmage this week were Dave Morris, fullback,  Jimmy Marshall, left half, and Giles
Pettit, center, said Stack. He commented that the only practice injury was a cracked bone in Jimmy
Marshall's hand, but with the hand in a cast, it isn't stopping Marshall.

Stack said that Apopka's record last year of won 3 lost 7, is a little deceptive as to prospects for a tough
game. With the exception on one player, Apopka will have it's last season's team back in action. Stack
expects the experienced opposing team to put up quite a scrap.

"We're expecting a real battle next Friday night," he said.

Assisting Stack in whipping the Leesburg boys in to shape this season are Coaches Bill Peck and Bob
Vincent.
