Jackets Drop Close Apopka Game

By Jim Allen
The Leesburg Commercial Ledger
Thursday, October 2, 1952

A 50-yard desperation heave by Sophomore quarterback Bobby Pitman in the third quarter provided the
margin of victory for the Apopka Blue Darters over Leesburg last Friday night, as they triumphed, 6-0.

The game was hard-fought all the way, with the Jackets showing a decide edge in the rushing
department.
Leesburg racked up 179 yards on the ground against Apopka's 99. The Darters gained 58 yards in the
air while the Jackets did not complete a pass.

Both teams showed strength in mid-field, but neither could generate a serious threat, as most of the
game
was played between the 25-yard lines. However, Pitman's toss was the difference between the two
teams.
After being hit and trapped behind the line of scrimmage, he fired the ball to halfback Johnny Myers on
the 12. Myers gathered in the ball and stepped across the goal line for the score. The try for the extra
point failed, and the game ended, Apopka 6, Leesburg 0.

The Jackets will travel to Sanford tomorrow night, where they will meet the favored Celeryfeds on their
home field.
