Hewitt Is Chosen Most Valuable Lad Of Leesburg Team

By Ronald Bell
The Leesburg Commercial-Ledger
Sunday, December 12, 1954

Picking one naming him the "Most Valuable Player" is almost impossible.

It is hard to distinguish one player as the most valuable when you have to pick between boys like Jimmy
Mahan offensive and who caught 80 percent of the Jackets completed passes; Ray Richardson, whose
defensive and offensive line work has helped the Jackets considerably: Jim Grigsby whose churning
legs have gained 64 percent of Leesburg's yardage; Marvin Putman, guard, has been almost
indispensable this year int he line; Kenneth Yates, offensive guard, Termite as his called, has been
one of the leaders in the center of the line all season; and Bobby Moody who has also been a big help
to the Jackets in the forward wall.

Next to being most valuable this year could come only one, Richard Collins whose brilliant signal
calling has brought the Jackets through some tight spots. Richard has used his quick thinking and fast
action to keep two steps ahead of the Jackets' opposition all year. Richard, as well as being a fine
signal caller, has always been able to pick up a few yards when they were needed most.

The most valuable player could be only the only boy that hasn't been mentioned so far. This boy has
been an outstanding linebacker on defense and has helped keep the Jackets spirit high when the
going was rough. Howard Hewitt, Yellow Jacket center and co-captain, has consistently been one of
the best downfield blockers in the O.B.C. Howard is an excellent team man and an easily coached boy
according to his coaches, As well as being an outstanding football player, Hoard is an excellent
student, carrying a "B" average.
