Leesburg Yellow Jackets vs Apopka Blue Darters, High School Football Game

Apopka Game Tonight

LHS Squad Is Underdog To Fern' Squad

By Sports Staff

The Apopka's are the favorites tonight as the Yellow Jackets fly down the road to tangle with the team
that walloped them last year-but this corner is going along with Coach Earl Burt's buzzing backs to
sting the Popkas hard and win this first one in the Orange Belt Conference.

Last year Apopka whipped the locals by a 20-6 score, but now they have some injuries that may
weaken their power team. Six seniors will start the game for the Fern Town eleven, and most of the rest
of the players are juniors.

The Yellow Jacket squad who will make the trip are:

Centers-Jimmy Tichenor, Russell Avera, and John Roberts. Tackles-Jimmy Johnson, Roger Parker,
Jerry Garlock, George Collins, and Allen Brown. Guards-William Pelt, Robert McLeod, James Peterson,
Wayne Hall, Jack Hewitt, and Steve Matheny. Ends-Andrew Miller, Buddy LaBorde, John Russ, Buddy
Lindsey, George Parker, and Reggie Fechtel.-Quarterbacks Ivan Roberts, Raymond Collins, and Bob
Blount. Fullbacks-Eddie Parker, Rodney Schlosser, and Robert Valentine. Halfbacks-Tommy Milam,
Hubert Burton, Buddy Harris, and Leon Smart.

Coach Burt is sure his boys will win, and with a line averaging about 170 and the experienced backs on
the Jacket squad it could well be a good, solid upset this evening under the lights at Apopka.

The team is certainly "up" in spirit, and they seem to think this is the Yellow Jacket year for the Orange
Belt title.
