Leesburg Yellow Jackets vs. Apopka Blue Darters, High School Football Game

Fighting Leesburg Ties Apopka

Tommy Milam And Buddy LaBorde Lead Yellow Jackets: Andy Miller, Jim

THE APOPKA BLUE DARTERS GOT THE DART STUCK INTO THEM last night by underdog Leesburg
team, and when the final whistle tooted the score was deadlocked at 7-7 - and Leesburg should have
won.

The local Yellow Jackets played a fine, hard-charging game for about one quarter, and part of another,
but they slacked off in the middle of the game when they could have punched over another tally to win
this opening game before 3,500 fans in Apopka's new Edwards Field.

Leesburg took the "jump" at the beginning of the fray when The Leesburg line was out charging the
"down-the-road-boys" all during the first quarter and this meant the difference.

In the second frame Apopka churned the turf for their lone TD by a lad with the rolling name of Dalton
Cleghorn. The Blue Darter's also made thing s exciting in the final quarter when they snuggled up to a
Leesburg fumble and tried to push over a second score.

Only this time the Leesburg forward wall rared up and stopped'em.

It was a closer game than preseason dope indicated, and if that Leesburg line had kept charging like
they did in the first 15 minutes of the game the Yellow Jackets would have copped the victory.

A good offense is really a hard charging defensive line - and the Yellow Jackets had a ram-banging line
most of the evening. They were excellent until they began to squat on their duffs in the middle of the
game and lost that zip a team needs to out charge the opposition.     1   of   3     Next
