Leesburg Yellow Jackets To Close Season
Tomorrow

By "DES"
The Daily Commercial
November 20, 1956

When the Panthers of Eustis and the Yellow Jackets of Leesburg tangle tomorrow night at Memorial
Field here it'll be a battle of the fullbacks as Bob Bowen of Eustis and Eddie Parker of Leesburg clash
headon.

One thing is certain from this game you can throw out all other scores, comparisons, and other
pregame
methods of determining the likely winner. This traditional game dates back over a number of years and
is
probably the longest series between high school in this section. Eustis hasn't fared so well in late
years
however with losses to the Yellow Jackets for the past five years.

The Panthers took up the rear in the Orange Belt Conference last year with a winless season and thus
far
this year have posted but two victories their victims being St. Cloud and Mt. Dora.

The Jackets were victorious over both Apopka and Winter Park while Eustis lost to both of these
schools.

The Blue and Gold of Eustis operates from a Split T offense  under their new Coach Jack Strucker and
features a pair of quarterbacks in Mike O'Connor and Bill Barnes. At the halfback slots are Len Nix and
Bob Graham both a couple of speed merchants. Nix in particular has been a demon with his kickoff
and
punt returns and is sure to be a threat all night long. The squad's big loss by graduation was J.C. Smith
an All-Conference full bet his shoes have been alby filled by Bob Bowen who was an honorable
mention
in the All-Conference selections at fullback last year.

Eustis is no longer in the Orange Belt conference having been added to the Mid lakes Conference this
year but the work of both Eddie Parker and Bob Bowen is sure to count a lot in the All Conference
selections for each.

The Yellow Jackets will be going with the same backs that have carried the mail so well of late Ivan
Roberts will be directing the squad at quarterback back. Ivan came into his own as a passer in last
Friday's victory over Sanford and Friday's victory over Sanford and is sure to shine tomorrow night. Mike
Higgins and Chuck Showley will be running at the halfback posts with Eddie Parker at full.

Except for End Jerry Garlock who suffered a pulled muscle in his left side in the Sanford game the
squad
is in tip top shape and should go at full speed against the Panthers. It is doubtful at this writing that
Garlock will see much action and the Jacket Coaching staff is grooming George Parker as a likely fill in.
