Jackets Out For Win, Tackle Lakeview Here
The Daily Commercial
Friday, October 11, 1957
A fired up band of Yellow Jackets will be looking for their first win of the season tonight
as they take on the
undefeated Red Devils of Lakeview High from Winter Garden.
Lakeview comes here with a 12 to 6 win over Daytona Seabreeze and a 12 to 7 win over
Kowboys. This will be the first conference game of the season for the visitors while the
have dropped games to conference foes Apopka and Melbourne as well as the season's
opener to non
conference opponent Ocala.
The Red Devils come here with a light but fast squad and rely for the most part on their
running game. In
this department they feature Halfbacks Huchlan Martin and Tommy DeLoach. Martin has
scored three of
the four touchdowns the Orange County lads have registered this year and DeLoach is
a constant threat
in the open field. Larry Burkett and Frank Browder share the quarterback duties with
completing the backfield at fullback.
It is expected that the Jackets will go with the backfield that showed up so well in last
with the Bulldogs of Melbourne High. Mike Higgins will no doubt be directing the fortunes
of the team at
quarterback with Bobby Blount and Chuck Showley running mates at halfback. Eddie
Parker will be
carrying the bulk of the load from his fullback post. Billy Huber who has returned to the
lineup for the first
time this year along with Randy Brown and Ronnie Gibson are expected to see a good
deal of duty in the
backfield as well.
Except for a couple of early season injuries which has sideline Tackle James Copeland
and Center Morris
Bays The Yellow Jackets will be at full strength for this contest, The squad spirit is at an
all time high and
should be enough to carry them all the way. Followers of the fortunes of the Yellow
Jackets should be well
pleased when they come away form tonight's affair.
