Brave Bill Goes Out On A Limb Picks Bulldogs

With a full week of hard practice behind them and raring to go Coach Andy Caldwell's
Tavares Bulldogs
are primed for their game against the Leesburg Yellow Jackets in the ninth annual Elks Bowl at
Leesburg Memorial Stadium tonight at 8.

Who will win? Toss a coin and you will come up with as good an answer as any sports expert could
furnish. This will be the first meeting of these teams since 1929 and the outcome is too much in doubt
for me to try and predict.

On their record, the Bulldogs should have the edge. They lost but one and tied one in 10 starts. The loss
was a non-conference game to
Colonial High of Orlando by the barest of margins, 12-13. The tie, also a
non-conference game was a 13-13 game with Crescent City.

Head Coach Caldwell and asst. coach Tom Margon have put their charges through some stiff drills and
long, hard scrimmaging to get them in top shape for tonight's game. The team is in good shape,
physically and mentally, so Look Out, Yellow Jackets!

Eleven Bulldogs will be playing their last games for Tavares High School tonight. They are: Ronnie
Pursell, Russell Mursch, Kenny Lanier, Jerry Glover, Rodney Wilburn, Jim Beech, Bobby Locke, Jim
Fleming, Charles Mould, Tony Richich and Jack Harmon.

The discomforting word from these 11 to the Yellow Jackets is "We're going to make our final game for
the Bulldogs a winning one."
