JACKETS VS. WINTER PARK

Homecoming Set Tonight At Leesburg High

By "DES"
The Daily Commercial
Wednesday, November 10, 1960

It'll be Homecoming at Memorial Field tonight as the Fightin Jackets of Leesburg High take on the
always tough Winter Park Wildcats with kickoff time slated for tonight and a gigantic halftime
Homecoming show
that will feature the crowning of the Homecoming Queen. The Jackets will be trying for two in a row as
they
attempt to improve on their overall 4-2-1 record while Winter Park is still looking for their first win of the
year following six losses.

The Jackets have always found the Wildcats tough losing 26 to 0 in 1958 and 12 to 6 in a real thriller
diller in the Orange County City last year. This year will be no exception as Winter Park comes roaring
into town itching for that first win and boasting a forward all the Jackets are going to find tough. The
visitors have a couple of tackles that tip the scales at 215 and 230 and a pair of guards who will weigh
out
at 180. This is the same problem the Jackets had to overcome against the Seminoles of Sanford High
and
the best they could do there was a scoreless tie. The T offense of the Bill Orr coached eleven is a well
balanced unit that while lacking the scoring punch has been able to move the ball well. They have yet to
come up with a real good power runner or the break-away type of back that Winter Park has been
famous
for but you can bet your life the Jackets will have their hands full tonight.

The Orange and Black of Leesburg High will be playing without the services of End Arthur Spence who
continues on the disable list. Added to this list is Center Mike Sheets who came up with a leg infection
this
week as a result of the Maynard Evans game and latest reports have this game youngster in bed
running
a high fever. Sheets has been a real tough linebacker with the defensive unit and is sure to be missed
out
there tonight. As if this were not enough Quarterback Randy Brown got out of bed yesterday after
nursing
the flu all week long but he is expected to be ready for offensive duty tonight against visiting Winter
Park.

Otherwise the Jacket lineup looks about the same. Max Wettstein and Jon Axford will be on the flanks
with
junior varsity newcomers J. J. Kimmons and Tom Willis still holding onto the tackle spots. Charles
Sellars
and Robert Mock will be at the offensive guard slots with Sellars taking over for Sheets as a defensive
linebacker. Willie McCallum will handle the duties at Center for the ailing Sheets.

In the backfield Doug Mumford and David Webster a pair of speedsters will team up at Halfback with
Roger Clark and David Herlong sharing the work load at Fullback. Handy Randy is expected to direct
the
attack from his Quarterback post with Ronnie Young moving in if Brown is not able to go all the way.
Leading the defensive eleven will be End Gerald Fletcher, linebacker Dillard Copeland, and defensive
back Bobby Lowery. This is a real fine unit that has held the opposition to but one TD in the last three
games.

The stage is set and an overflow capacity crowd of loyal Jacket boosters is expected to be on hand
tonight for Homecoming and Winter Park.
LOLLIPOP LAND - High school students used ingenuity, skill and many man-hours of labor to
prepare the colorful floats which characterized Tuesday night's Homecoming Parade. Winner
of the float contest will be announced tonight at the Homecoming game. (Staff Photo, The
