Jackets Open Season Tonight Against DeLand at 8

By "DES"
The Daily Commercial
Tuesday, September 16, 1960

The Jackets of Leesburg High closed out practice yesterday with a series of dummy drills and
formations and braced for the visit from the Bulldogs of DeLand High at Memorial Field tonight. Kickoff
time is set for
eight.

This is the second meeting for these twin elevens with Leesburg coming out on the strong side of a 9
to 0
score in the Volusia County city last year. This will be the first game of the year for each squad and the
inaugural game for the DeLand in the Orange Belt Conference.

DeLand with sixteen lettermen and blessed with two deep in their middle line positions has age and
experience on their side this year and this could go a long way in tonight's game. Much of their
offensive
threat rests on the big shoulders of their pile driving Fullback Mike Kicidis. Kicidis is a strong boy with
plenty of power up the middle and speed to spare. He will be the one to watch tonight.

The Jackets will not be without an offensive thrust of their own however as their number one, two punch
goes into action in the person of Quarterback Randy Brown and Halfback Roger Clark. This is a major
change in the Jacket backfield as Brown moves over from Halfback and Clark moves in from Fullback.
Teaming with Clark at the other Halfback slot is David Webster, who can really get up and go. Dickie
Huff
and David Herlong are expected to split the work load at Fullback.

Arthur Spence and Jon Axford are expected to start on the wings with Gerald Fletcher moving in with the
defensive unit. Jimmy Pelt, Jimmy Brunson, and Marcus Lawrence will share the tackle duties. Ronnie
Ferguson and Charles Sellars are expected to be the offensive guards with Bobby Mock moving on
with
the defensive eleven and Dillard Copeland stepping into a linebacker's position. Center Mike Sheets is
expected to go both ways.

Bobby Lowery and Ronnie Young are tabbed for the deepback spots in the defensive lineup.
