Jackets Prep For Road Game At Auburndale

By “DES”
Daily Commercial
Thursday, October 13, 1960

The fightin' Jackets of Leesburg High turned their attention to the serious business of getting ready for
their first away game of the year this Friday night as they journey to Auburndale where they will take on
a
real tough Bloodhound eleven.

The Jackets came out of the Wildwood game sporting an assortment of bumps and bruises none of
when
are considered to be serious in nature but which has slowed their offensive punch some. The boys
worked out in shorts Monday and yesterday cranked up their offense against the JayCees. The junior
varsity rose to the occasion and was able to contain the first string offensive eleven for the most part
and
hold their gains to short yardage. This is one of the few occasions this has happened on the practice
field
at Leesburg High this year and while it indicates that the junior varsity has come a long way since the
beginning of the season it could spell trouble for the Jackets in their Friday night go at Auburndale.

Jimmy Brunson who will have the stitches removed from his damaged and cut fingers today still
remains a
question mark in the Jacket forward wall. Bobby Lowery, star defensive halfback, who missed the
Wildwood game while recuperating from a broken nose suffered in the Apopka game, is expected to
see
some if only limited action. Hunt Paulling with shin splints and a cold is another doubtful starter in the
forward wall while in the back field Roger Clark with rib and thigh injuries and David Herlong with a
pulled
muscle may have to step aside for Dickie Huff who remains healthy and should be able to go all the
way.

To plug the gap at tackle J. J. Kimmons has been moved up from the junior varsity squad but the
return of
Tom Willis to the JayVees may keep the pressure on Kimmons for the spot on the varsity.
