Jackets Square Off For Auburndale

As the fightin' Jackets of Leesburg High come up to the halfway mark in their 1961 season they face
one of their toughest opponents of the year in the
Auburndale Bloodhounds tonight at Memorial
Stadium and a team that could make or break the Jackets as they face the last half of their schedule.
Each squad boasts a two and two record as they square off against each other with the Jackets
winners over Wildwood and Colonial of Orlando after opening season losses to DeLand and Apopka.
Auburndale meanwhile lost to Haines City and Dade City, two powerhouses yet to be faced by the
Jackets, while coming out on top over Winter Haven and Wildwood. This will be the second meeting
between these two schools with Auburndale besting the locals 20 to 6 last year.

Much of the Hounds threat comes in the person of 200 lb. plus
fullback Del Glass, a converted end. He
gives them plenty of yardage up the middle and when you combine this with the speed of halfbacks
Ronald Hall and James Chambers you know the Jackets will have their hands full from kickoff time at
eight tonight on. Their doubled winged T offense is in the capable hands of quarterback G. I. James.

Along their forward wall they are expected to lineup with
Bill Stefanski and Harry Pringle on the wing
with
Ken Howard and Wayne Gunnels at the tackle spots. Jim Jordan and Ronnie Ogburn will team up
at guard with Seth Riffle over the ball at center.

Against the visitors the Jackets will come up with
Jon Axford and Max Wettstein at end, Marcus
Lawrence, and
J. J. Kimmons at the tackle slots, with Chip Deems, and Capt. Bobby Mock the guards.
Kenny Smithgall is slated to be at center.

Their backfield will feature
John Gray at quarterback, Stan Gideons and Joe McLeod, the speedsters at
the halfback spots, with Bill McBride, the inside threat at fullback.

From all indications tonight's game is fast shaping up as one of the best that local fans will have an
opportunity to see and overflow crowd is expected to be on hand to cheer the Jackets on.
