Leesburg’s fightin’ Jackets dumped a scrappy Wildwood eleven in the Sumter County City Friday night to
the tune of 26 to 6 to even their season’s record of 2 and 2. This was the first win for the Jackets over the
Wildcats in the four years that they have been meeting and the first Orange Belt Conference loss for the
host Wildcats since they joined the Conference. It was also the first win for the Jackets in the OBC this
year.

Leesburg unveiled their own MGM production as halfbacks Joe McLeod and Stan Gideons teamed up
with fullback Bill McBride to register the Jackets TD’s. McLeod did all his scoring in the first half with
plunges of two and three yards to send the Jackets out in front while Gideons chipped in with a beautiful
thirty-eight yard run to put them out of reach. McBride added his six points with a seven yard off tackle
sprint. McBride and McLeod also contributed an extra point apiece with runs.

The Jackets moved with the opening kickoff from their own twenty-two with two consecutive first downs to
the Wildcats forty-two where they lost the ball on a fumble. This was all the Wildcats needed as this fired
up Blue and White squad got themselves a first down on the Jackets forty-eight and then came up with a
screen pass to halfback Chip Harp good for thirty-six yards and a first down inside the visiting Jackets ten
yard line. They took to the air again to jump into a short lived lead on a nine yard pass to end Roger
Hemsley. Quarterback Gerald Bramlett was their principal chucker during the night. Their try for the point
failed.

With the following kickoff the Jackets bounced back with a touchdown drive of their own that moved them
from their forty-eighth for three straight first downs to put them inside the Cats five yard line. They called
on halfback McLeod and he responded with a shot off tackle that was good for the six points. They went
ahead when fullback McBride ran the extra point.
