OCALA — The Trinity Catholic Celtics found themselves in a street fight in Friday night’s preseason
classic.

After racing out to a 28-0 first-quarter lead, the
2008 Class 2B state runners-up failed to put visiting
Leesburg away. In fact, the Jackets scored the next 19 points before a fourth-quarter surge by Trinity
restored order and cemented a 42-25 victory in four quarters of varsity action.

Offensively, it was the
Kedrick Rhodes Show.

The dynamic senior running back ran for 170 yards and a score on just 14 carries (12.1 yards per carry)
and hauled in three passes for 70 yards, including touchdown grabs of 25 and 35 yards.

Rhodes, who set the county postseason rushing record last season, showed his usual shake in the
open field. But it was the way he finished runs — shoulders down, ball secured — that truly illustrated
his growth during the offseason.

Every time the Celtics needed a play, they leaned on Rhodes. In all, 13 of his 17 touches resulted in first
downs or touchdowns to sustain and finish drives.

“(Kedrick’s) on a mission,” second-year
Trinity head coach John Brantley said. “He worked hard this
summer and set some goals.

“He came out here tonight and proved what he’s about. He’s gonna be a strong (Division I college)
player.”

The Celtic passing game was another story.     1   of   3
