GAINESVILLE - Florida's 1954 Freshman football roster proves that Coach Bob Woodruff is still
depending on the home state to provide the bulk of future varsity grid talent.

While a total of 13 states are represented on the first year squad, Florida is contributing 23 players.

The city of Miami is providing the Gators with the largest number of home state talent. From Miami the
Gators have 7 footballers signed to grant-in-aid scholarships. Other Florida cities with freshmen
candidates include: Pensacola, 2, while one each hails form Palatka, Palmetto,
Leesburg, Tampa,
Lakeland, Titusville, Chipley, Cross City, Clearwater, Marianna, Apopka, and Port St. Joe.

The states of Texas and Illinois are the next heaviest contributors to Florida's football future with six
candiates each. Ohio is next with four gridders; Missouri and Massachusetts follow with three each;
and New Jersey and Pennsylvania are supplying two apiece.

West Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Iowa, and Washington, D.C. all have one freshman football candidate
attending the University of Florida.

Florida: Don Heneipp, Don Hicks, Charles Mitchell, Joe Windham, Jim Hines, Ellis Baker, and Jim
Rountree, all of Miami: Ken Seymour, Y. B. Patterson, and Ed Seras of Pensacola:
Vince Fechtel,
Leesburg
; Bobby Harrell, Lakeland; Lou Pelham, Cross City: Lou Tenney, Palatka; Bob Verlander,
Marianna; Martin Courter, Palmetto: Ed Frykman, Ft. Lauderdale: Charles Gill, Tampa: Ken Smith,
Clearwater: Jon May, Chipley: Dick McCotter, Titusville: Bill Ayers, Port St. Joe: Bob Pitman, Apopka.
