The Yellow Jackets, Led By The Running Of Terence Pericles, Scored Four
Fourth-quarter Touchdowns In The Kickoff Classic.

LEESBURG - Leesburg may have found a new running back in Terence Pericles and
the Yellow Jackets scored four touchdowns in the final quarter Friday night to turn their
Kickoff Classic with Umatilla into a 33-20 rout.

Pericles, a junior, scored two of the touchdowns in the final period and rushed for 73
yards in the quarter, most of it straight up the middle, as a larger Leesburg team
seemed to wear down Umatilla in the preseason game played at Memorial Field/Hubert
O. Dabney Stadium.

But the ending was far different from the beginning.

Leesburg Coach Bud O'Hara had promised his team would play physical on defense. It
was a promise the defense had difficulty keeping early on.

Instead, was Umatilla's offense that was physical. It controlled the line of scrimmage and
ground out two long drives for touchdowns.

Umatilla put together a 14-play, 61-yard drive that used up 7 minutes and 8 seconds the
first time it had the ball. The entire series was on the ground and fullback Brett Comenzo
scored on a 1-yard run up the middle to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.

Umatilla put together another nice drive later, taking 13 plays and 7:30 to march 73
yards for another touchdown. Comenzo again scored on a 3-yard carry. This time, the
Bulldogs mixed in a 27-yard pass to set up the touchdown.

Between the two Umatilla scores, Leesburg showed big-play ability, utilizing the
breakaway speed of quarterback Ronnie Jo Franklin, who went around end for a
50-yard touchdown run.

Umatilla led, 14-13, until the final period.

First, the hard running of Deleon Dawson up the middle set the tone for the period.
Then Pericles took over, scoring on two 6-yard runs.

Leesburg's defense, which finally began to stiffen against Umatilla, then forced a
tunrover and on the next play, reserve running back Corrie Kelly busted loose down the
left side for a 22-yard touchdown run.

Umatilla's final touchdown came on a 12-yard run by Jasper Maple after Chris Sebree
hauled in a 32 yard pass after Jason Overton caught an 8-yard pass earlier in the drive.

The game started with the junior varsities from the two schools playing to a scoreless tie
in the first quarter. Leesburg had an excellent opportunity to score, driving to Umatilla's
6-yard line before time ran out.
