Leesburg vs Starke Bradford, High School Football Game

Jacket Season Opener Only One Week Away

By Jim Allen
The Leesburg Commercial Ledger
Thursday, September 11, 1952

With the opening game of the season only a week away, the Yellow Jacket football hopefuls show
signs of becoming a real threat in Central Florida this year. The Jackets have a veteran available at
every
position, and several promising candidates have been graduated from last year's junior varsity.

Last year's starting backfield is intact, with Jack Peachey and Jim Marshall at halfbacks, Dave Morris at
fullback, and Jim Allen acting as field general. Allen is expected to alternate with Morris at fullback, with
Bill
McLean and Bobby Oberholtzer filling in at the quarterback post. Two newcomers, Senior Dick Swan
and
Freshman Dave Edgar have shown speed, and may see extensive service during the year.

In the line, the important center position is held down by dependable Giles Petitt, with Sophomore
Ronald
Bell a likely understudy. Jack Woodard has been rough at guard, with Howard Rempe and big Walter
Warren also doing good work. At the tackle post, Ken Regnvall and Skippy Webb have shown blocking
improvement, while Jud Cauthen and Ray Richardson have been outstanding in defensive work,
Ronald
Schlosser, a junior, has been a surprise standout at end, and is followed by Wilford Dickson and Bob
Beyers.

The 1952 Yellow Jackets are a vastly improved team which should provide a few surprises for the
powerful
Starke aggregation on the 19th. Coach Stack should have no use for the crying towel this year.
