Leesburg vs Ocala, High School Football Game

Leesburg Jay-Vees Whip Ocalas 7-6, Continue Unbeaten

The Leesburg high school JayVees continued their unbeaten, untied record as they defeated a
surprisingly strong Ocala team, 7 to 6, in last night's football contest. The win in Ocala made it two
straight for the Leesburg boys both by the identical score.

Bobby Blount and Billy Standridge played identical roles again last night as they did in the first game
Bobby scoring the touchdown Billy adding the winning extra point.

It was Ocala all the way in the first half and it looked like the local boys  would come home defeated. The
Ocala team were running all over the Leesburg team in the first half and scored their lone touchdown
during this time. The extra point try was blocked thereby leaving Leesburg with the opportunity of winning
the game.

Coach Adams talked to the boys during the halftime and it was a new team that took the field to start the
third quarter. Using aerials and wide runs to pen up the middle of the Ocala line, the Leesburg team
finally moved into scoring distance,. Ray Collins, running at left halfback, passed to George Parker for
15 yards and set up the touchdown run. Bobby Blount, quarterback, on a quarterback option kept the ball
and rambled for 28 yards and the touchdown. Bill Standridge then powered over the goal line form the
fullback spot score the winning point. Blount was aided by several beautiful blocks on his way to paydirt
which proves that fine teamwork on the par of all eleven men will pay off in the end zone.

Roger Parker looked good on defense along with several other boys. The Ocala team was on a
touchdown march towards the end of the game but an interception by Ferrell Young saved the day for
Leesburg. The team ran out clock after the interception. The JayVees will continue to improve and will be
playing at home next Tuesday night. Good football can be witnessed at these games.
