Sports Staff
The Daily Commercial
Tuesday, October 16, 1956
The athletic department of Leesburg High School is out of debt for the first time in years, Principal Ray
Hayes said today, and he gave the Dads' Club most of the credit.
During the past year the organization of sports boosters has shouldered a big part of the financial load
in local high school sports, and the budget adopted at the meeting on October 11 is more ambitious
than
that of the last season.
Projects set up for this year include concession stand and press box (cost to school over $800), $400;
programs $400; trophies $50; usherettes' jackets, $50; bleachers, new reserved seats (664 seats, cost
$3270), $3201; insurance for football players $550; films (football, 4 games) $168.
Also budgeted were a fall banquet for Dads and athletes, $235; meals for football players and
cheerleaders on out-of-town games, $326; meals for players and cheerleaders, basketball, $165;
meals
for baseball players $125; meals for players, track, $75; meals for swimmers $85; cheerleader travel
expense for football and basketball games away from home, $85; laundry, all sports, $200; spring
picnic
for all sports athletes $100.
Funds for golf were budgeted by the high school athletic department, in cooperation with Silver Lake
Golf
and Country Club.
Members of the budget committee are Junior Holloway, Jack Hewitt, Cal Calloway, Earl Burt, Ray Hayes
and C.E. Sauls.
With the funds saved by participation of the Dads' Club, Mr. Hayes said that the athletic department
track,
baseball and swimming.
The football teams, from the varsity squad through the junior high teams, have the finest equipment
they
have had in years. Hays said, and the athletic department hopes to have every sport in the school
program as well equipped in the future.
