Winter Haven's Blue Devils led by Quarterback Bobby Marotti and Halfback Larry Tucker bowled over the
Leesburg Yellow Jackets 33 to 7 at Memorial Field Friday night.

Minus many of the first stringers the Yellow Jackets were no match for the hard charging Blue Devils
who took command of the game from the beginning. Jacket untested freshmen and sophomores on the
Yellow Jacket squad were a credit to themselves and to Leesburg High in the second half however as
they battled the visitors on even terms.

Before the first quarter was half over the Blue Devils had intercepted a Leesburg pass on the locals
thirty five and following two rapid first downs Halfback Fred Sconyers took a pitchout from Quarterback
Bobby Marotti and crossed the double stripes. The play started from ten yards out.

Recover Fumble
Before the period ended that hard charging Blue Devil line led by Big Tackle Frank Kahnert blocked an
attempted punt by Eddie Parker and Guard Jack Cobb dropped on the loose pigskin to give Winter
Haven the ball once more on the Yellow Jacket thirty-five. After a first down on the twenty-three Halfback
Larry Tucker lugged the leather the remaining distance for the second six points.

In the second quarter it was Halfback Turner who once move broke the game wide open, wheeling and
dealing his way forty one yards to the Jackets twenty-two. From this point a succession of penalties and
losses forced the visitors to punt.

Leesburg's tailback fumble the punt and Winter Haven gained possession on the locals five yard line
only to lose the ball on a pass interception. They were handed the ball right back again, though, when
Leesburg fumbled once more. This time they were not be denied, however, and Halfback Turner
plunged the necessary five yards for the TD.
