Pasco High Powerhouse Rolls Over LHS 33
To 7

The Jackets almost turned the trick at Memorial Field Friday night but a pair of long distance TD runs by
halfbacks Billy Backlinie and Jimmy Sessoms put the Pirates of Pasco High out of reach as they went on
to coast to a 33 to 7 win over the locals to close out the home season for Leesburg. Sporting an 8 an 0
record at this stage of the game the Dade city eleven has been signed by the local Elks for the Tenth
Annual Elks Bowl game and will be back at Memorial Field on December 1st to meet the high flying
Seminoles of Sanford High.

The Jackets got off to a bad start Friday night when they fumbled on the second play of the game and the
visitors had it on the locals 25. They got themselves a first down at the 11 and halfback Billy Faulk got
himself the six points with a two yard run. The run attempt for the extra point was stopped short.

Their second touchdown came when the Pirates took a Jacket punt on their own 28 and moved down field
for two consecutive first downs to the Jackets 39. Soon after the second quarter got underway they had
themselves another six points as halfback Billy Backlinie scampered 33 yards to cross the double stripe
standing up for the first of his two long distance TD runs of the night. The twin elevens exchanged
fumbles in the Leesburg end of the field midway through the second quarter before the Jackets cranked
up their offense.

Their drive started from their own 24 as they mixed their ground game and their aerial game well to drive
goalward. Fullback Bill McBride was the big ground gainer in this drive, chipping in with a 33 yard run. The
Whitey Smith coached crew broke into the scoring column with a five yard run by McBride who also added
the extra point with a plunge. The Jackets left the field at halftime trailing by the slim margin of 12 to 7.

The Orange and Black came out for the second half as if they were going to take over as they moved the
ball well from their own 20 to the visitors 10 before a stout Pirate defense stopped them dead. McBride
with an 18 yarder and Nappi with a 15 yard sprint combined with their passing game made this drive go.
