PLAYERS PRESENTED AWARDS-Jimmy Bates, Bill McBride, David Herlong and Max Wettstein are
looking at the plaques they were presented at a Football banquet sponsored by the Florida
Telephone Corp. Herlong was awarded as the best all-around back, Wettstein, best all-around
lineman and Bates and McBride, the linemen showing the most improvement.

Football awards and letter awarded to member of the
Leesburg High Football squad at a banquet in
the Community Building sponsored by the Florida Telephone Corp.

Max Wettstein, Jimmy Bates, David Herlong and Bill McBride were presented plaques by the Leesburg
Dad's Club.

Herlong was awarded as the best all-around back and Wettstein as the best lineman. Bates and
McBride were awarded as the linemen showing the most improvement.

Wettstein has recently accepted a football scholarship to Florida State University while Herlong
received the Henry Belk memorial Trophy for nomination as the outstanding player on the Leesburg
Squad for 1961.

Other than the four plaques presented, the coaches gave out 23 varsity letters and three letters for
team managers.

The Rev. Phil Dunford, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, was guest speaker at the banquet. Rev.
Dunford spoke to the young men on physical ability, mental ability, spiritual foundation and their
importance in the world of today and tomorrow.

The Four Debs of Leesburg provided musical entertainment for the banquet.
