Back at the typewriter after a great holiday season, it is a pleasure for this writer to start off the new
year with the announcement of the 1970 Defensive Player Of The Year for our area.
This award goes to the outstanding defensive standout in area high school football circles and will be
capped by a trophy presentation to be made at the football banquet coming up shortly.
The winner of the 1970 Defensive Player Of The Year Award is a young man who is known around
football circles as a bonafide blue chip college prospect.

demise was the big play of Greg Johnson. The Bulldog coaching staff called Johnson the finest high
school lineman they had ever watched and this just set the pattern for an outstanding year to follow.
Leesburg's coaching staff is agog at the prospects of having Johnson back in 1971, but in 1970 Greg
Johnson is the Daily Commercial Defensive Player Of The Year.
