LEESBURG - The Fightin' Yellow Jackets of Leesburg High School entered their 2012 Homecoming game
coming off two straight losses at home. The Bulldogs of Saint Cloud High School returned to Leesburg
Memorial Field at Hubert O. Dabney Stadium for the first time since 1994. The Jackets won last years
game in a 38-36 shootout at Tom Gannarelli Field in St. Cloud.
"I love days like these when you wake up in the morning feeling bad and having a bad day," Senior
P/OLB/RB Austin Walker said a few hours before last nights game. "But underneath it all you know at 7:00
you get to go out there on that field and do what not many people can do on their Friday nights and that's
hit somebody, be with the guys you love, and play the game of football."
"That's what my Friday nights consist of, Walker said. "And to me the week before is all worth those 2 and
a half hours under those lights with my brothers."
Leesburg's (3-2, 0-1) offense didn't see the field until there was 8:00 left in the second quarter. St. Cloud
(1-3, 0-1) used a ball control running game with RB Eric Pfeifer (Sr., 5-7, 175) to keep the Jackets offense
on the sideline. With 6:50 left in the first quarter All-State Candidate DE/OLB Senior Jordan Tucker
stepped in front of a St. Cloud pass and returned it for a touchdown. Tucker finished the game with 2
sacks and was in the Bulldogs backfield all night. PK Junior James Eldridge PAT was good giving the
Jackets a 7-0 lead without a offensive play in the first quarter.
St. Cloud took over on it's own 20 yard line on the next possession. Once again Pfeifer would be the
workhorse on the drive. The Bulldogs put together a 13 play 80 yard drive capped off by a quarterback
sneak off of the right side of center. The PAT was good tying the game up at 7-7 with a little over eight
minutes left in the half.
Leesburg's next possession ended with a bad snap on fourth down punt attempt resulting in good field
position for the Bulldog's. A couple of plays later St. Cloud TB Williams scored from 28 yards out, but the
play was called back after a penalty was called. The Black Jackets defense forced the Bulldogs to punt
dodging a bullet.
The Jackets took over on their own 6 yard line with 4:23 left in the half. The offense engineered a 94 yard
drive their longest of the season, giving the defense a much needed rest. The Jackets would finish the
drive with a short touchdown run giving them a 14-7 lead going into halftime.
The Black Jackets defense shut down St. Cloud in the second half with a smothering defense led by
Tucker, Austin Walker and Jermaine Gasden. The Jackets had to much depth as St. Cloud had 7 players
playing both ways. Head coach Randy Trivers emptied his bench in the second half getting all of his
seniors playing time in their last homecoming game. Trey Bisbee finished off the scoring for the Jackets
hauling in his first touchdown catch of the year.
St. Cloud will return home this week to face Kissimmee Osceola at Tom Gannarelli Field in St. Cloud.
