Despite seven defensive starters being held out of action, and without starting quarterback Ryan
Tentler taking a single snap, the Stetson Hatters went through an almost 150 play scrimmage on
Saturday night at muggy Spec Martin Memorial Stadium.

With so many starters sitting out, it should come as no surprise that the offense was able to pile up big
yardage on the night. There was a total of 424 passing yards between five quarterbacks and 243 yards
rushing.

“There was some good and bad,” Hatters head coach Roger Hughes said. “It is really hard to evaluate
because there were seven starters out on defense. I thought both the first and second team offense
executed pretty well. They got into some deep situations and were able to generate first downs.
Mechanically, we have to get better and get faster. I have to get the plays in faster and we have to get up
to the line faster. We just have to play with a greater sense of urgency.”

The top two candidates to serve as the backup to Tentler at quarterback took the majority of the snaps
on the night. Senior Blake Plattsmier completed 12-of-21 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown while
also rushing for 23 yards on six carries. Redshirt freshman Colin McGovern completed 12-of-29
attempts for 208 yards and a score. He had 11 rushing yards on five carries.

“I thought both of them had some good passes, and I thought they both ran the option well,” Hughes
said. “I am pleased with that. Overall, there were some good things that happened and we know we
have some play-makers on the perimeter, if we can just get the ball to them.”

The standout play-maker was sophomore receiver Ja'Vonta Swinton. He made a big splash with a 75-
yard TD catch and run from McGovern, part of a five reception night for 142 yards.

“Ja’Vonta is playing better and better,” Hughes said. “We moved him over from defense last year and
he is really still getting used to playing offense. There are some little things that he has to get better at
but, so-far, so-good. He has a chance to bring a different dimension to our offense.”

The other TD in the passing game came on a 36-yard catch and run by senior Kegan Moore, who had
three catches for 82 yards on the night. The duo of Swinton and Moore, along with senior Darius
McGriff, give the Hatters the ability to make a defensive unit play back on their heels.
