SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game is just the second meeting between the two schools with Mercer holding a 1-0 lead in
the series, after last season's 49-21 victory in Macon.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP
The Bears scored twice in the first four minutes of the game, before adding another two touchdowns in
the first quarter to blow the game open early despite only holding the ball for three minutes and 30
seconds in the period. It was the second straight strong start at home for Mercer, who improved to 8-0
against non-conference opponents since reinstating the program.

Mercer outgained APSU 278-138 in the first half en route to 451 yards of total offense in the contest.
John Russ led the way for the Bears, completing 10-of-13 for 179 yards and three touchdowns through
the air to go along with 42 yards on the ground. Alex Lakes finished with 98 yards rushing and two
touchdowns, while Chandler Curtis and Tee Mitchell combined for 217 all-purpose yards.

The first four drives of the game set the tone for the Mercer defense, which held Austin Peay in check
during the first half as the Bears built up a 35-7 lead at halftime. Devin Davidson posted a game-high
eight tackles to lead the defensive unit, which was able to come up with stops on the first four
possessions of the game to help key the rout. Alex Avant added six tackles and an interception, while
Kelly Brooks tallied a season-best two tackles for loss.

A CLOSER LOOK AT AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay enters the 2015 season coming off a 1-11 campaign a year ago including a 1-7 mark in the
Ohio Valley Conference. The Governors snapped an 18-game losing streak during the middle of last
season with an Oct. 18 triumph over Murray State, 20-13. APSU was picked to finish ninth in the Ohio
Valley Conference preseason poll, as the team returns 15 starters (eight offense, seven defense) and
adds the services of a large 40-man incoming class.

Senior Trey Taylor appears to be entrenched as the team's starter at quarterback following preseason
camp, as the former Central Arkansas transfer threw for 511 yards, two touchdowns and two
interceptions in 2014. Leading rushers Otis Gerron and Julian Franklin are back for the Governors, after
combining for 839 yards a year ago. The Governors also retain the services of leading receiver Wesley
Thomas, who hauled in 24 receptions for 314 yards and two scores last season.

The Governors' defensive front will once again be the strength of the team with five of its six starters
along the front of its 4-2-5 scheme returning. Linebackers Antonio Turner (81 tackles) and Adam Noble
(74 tackles) lead the group, which also includes defensive linemen Nicholis Matiere-Bey, Jule Pace
and Tyler Schneider.
