FSU's Williams Ends Career

Actually, Fruitland Park's Dayne Williams extended his career with the Florida State Seminoles into
1989. Florida State's 13-7 victory over Auburn in Monday's Sugar Bowl culminated a stellar career.

In his senior year, Williams was a victim of his own past success. After scoring 15 touchdowns as a
junior, Williams was often used as a decoy in short-yardage situations. But when FSU Coach Bobby
Bowden gave Williams the ball, he responded. Despite several nagging injuries, Williams scored five
touchdowns - and was the 'Noles fourth leading rusher.

Williams also showed his sleight-of-hand skills on FSU's stunning fake punt against Clemson. In one
of the year's most memorable plays, Williams took a short snap and snuck the ball to LeRoy Butler,
who ran to the Clemson 1-yard line and set up the winning field goal.
